Chemistry Graduate at Universidade Federal Da Bahia

Chemistry Federal University of Bahia was established in 1958 as a supplement, then the Magnificent Rector Professor Dr. Edgard Rego dos Santos.
In Newsletter No 22 August 1958 is recorded that on July 14, 1958, the Magnificent Rector, Professor Dr. Edgard Rego dos Santos, has notified the University Council, on 26.06.58, duly authorized by the Trustees, signed with Sir. Minister of Education and Culture, Professor Dr. Paschoal Carlos Magno, an agreement for installation of the Institute of Chemistry in Bahia. For its Director was invited to Professor Dr. Claudio Costa Neto, the National School of Chemistry, University of Brazil, Rio de Janeiro who has little time in cargo.Os Teachers who formed the core trainer of the Institute of Chemistry originated in Courses : Bachelor and Graduate School of Philosophy, Sciences and Letters; Polytechnic School of Chemical Engineering, Faculty of Pharmacy, Pharmacy, and Laboratory of Geochemistry, School of Geology.

On 19.02.63 was approved by the University Council, chaired by the Magnificent Rector, Professor Dr. Alberico Fraga, the Rules of Procedure of the Institute of Chemistry.

Subsequently, were elected as heads of sections: Prof. Raphael de Menezes Silva Selling to the section of General and Inorganic Chemistry, Prof.. Espinheiro Carlos de Sá, the section of Physical Chemistry, Dr. Adolfo Gonçalves Diniz, professor of Analytical Chemistry, Faculty of Pharmacy, for the section of Analytical Chemistry, Prof.. Jose Carlos Reis, for the section of Organic Chemistry and Professor. Elsimar Metzker Coutinho, for the section of Biological Chemistry.

These sections formed the nucleus of what later, with the university reform, would turn in their Departments.

Section of Biological Chemistry, for their characteristics, became part of the Institute of Health Sciences, and Department of Biochemistry.
In December 1966, the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) granted a sum of U.S. $ 210,000.00 (two hundred and ten thousand dollars) for the installation of basic institutions, and indicated a committee formed by teachers Spínola Antônio Celso Costa, Elsimar Metzker Coutinho and Raphael de Menezes Silva Selling to discuss the implementation of Administrative Reform at the University of Bahia.

In March 1968, was presented to the board of the University Council a resolution establishing rules for the Graduate Course in Chemistry, Masters-level and was an organized procedure for this course by the Commission of Graduate of the Institute of Chemistry consists of the Teachers Raphael de Menezes Silva Selling (Director), Tripoli Gaudenzi (Deputy Director), Antonio Costa and Celso Spínola Elsimar Metzker Coutinho.
