Chemistry at National Central University bases its research and education (B.S., M.S., and Ph.D.) programs on the traditional chemistry disciplines: organic, inorganic, physical, and analytical chemistry as well as two other interdisciplinary areas: materials and environmental chemistry. In education, our goal is to prepare students for the advanced study of chemistry and to provide them with excellent proficiency in both theory and application. Since founded in 1993, the department has continued to evolve and expand. We now offer courses of all levels to both undergraduate (B.S.) and graduate students (M.S. and Ph.D.). At present, we have more than 150 undergraduate students (B.S. program) and more than 140 graduate students (M.S. and Ph.D. programs) in this department. What we have achieved in teaching and research during such a short period of time has been well known. The success of this department depends much upon the vigorousness, enthusiasm, and excellence of its faculty. The research programs led our outstanding faculty have fruitful achievements and have been well received in the world. Moreover, the department is continuously to equipped with the state-of-the-art instrumentations keyed to the needs of modern research. In addition, with the collaborations with other related departments of the university (such as the Departments of Physics, Atmospheric Sciences, and Optical Sciences) and with other research institutions (such as Academia Sinica, Industrial Technology Research Institute, SRRC etc.), the department will definitely go further in research and teaching. Our department has established an advisory committee to assist and counsel the teaching and research development of our department.

The research at this Chemistry Department has been ranked as one of top three “A+” chemistry departments in the evaluation conducted by the Ministry of Education (among the total 25 chemistry departments) in Taiwan.

The MSU Chemistry Department offers an exciting range of educational opportunities, with strengths in both the fundamental area of the discipline, and in significant new areas and applications. The Department of Chemistry offers a Ph.D. as the major graduate degree, although a small number of students are admitted to the M.S. degree program. Graduate-level course work and research opportunities are available in physical, organic, inorganic, and analytical chemistry as well as in a substantial number of cross-disciplinary and interdisciplinary areas such as polymers, materials, surface science, spectroscopy, theoretical chemistry, and biological chemistry.
